DSWCA STRUCTURE
DecrimSexWorkCA (DSWCA) structure includes a Steering Committee, Board of Directors, Movement Teams, Working Groups, and staff, contractors, and volunteers.
-
Steering Committee: This is the primary leadership body, responsible for co-leading movement teams, working groups, and selecting staff. They provide guidance to the Board of Directors and Coordinator. They are also tasked with ensuring alignment with DSWCA's mission. Steering members who are not on the Board serve as non-voting members of the Board, creating a system of checks and balances. The Steering Committee is entirely current and former sex workers.
-
Coordination & Staff: The Coordinator implements the Steering Committee's vision and facilitates communication between the Board, Steering Committee, Movement Teams and Working Groups. The Coordinator and other key staff are all current and former sex workers. When working with contractors we prioritize working with QTPOC with lived experience whenever possible.
-
Board of Directors: The Board serves as an oversight body, ensuring that DSWCA’s activities stay aligned with its mission and comply with legal and fiduciary responsibilities. It functions alongside the Steering Committee, but its role is primarily to provide external oversight. All DSWCA Directors have lived experience in sex work.
-
General Coalition: Includes (vetted) allied organizations, partners, and collaborators involved in specific overlapping work, but who are not interested in the daily operations of DSWCA. While the Coalition is open to everyone, voting is weighted, with sex workers having two votes and non-sex workers having one.
-
DSWCA Working Groups: Include sex worker leaders from select BIPOC and/or QTGNC led groups across CA. These leaders take a central role is shaping the direction of DSWCA movement building work and collaboration initiatives. Because we are committed to sex workers’ participation in leadership and decision-making, we offer stipends to Steering and Working group members. And actively work to create opportunities to support community involvement.
